Wiliams vs Muguruza
Venus Williams versus Garbine Muguruza. This is the final in Wimbledon’s ladies tournament. The match is going to be played on Saturday afternoon.
This is a really amazing year for the 37-years old Venus Williams. After reaching the Australian Open final in the beginning of the year, but losing to her sister Serena, now Venus once again proved the skeptics wrong and managed to reach just another Grand Slam final. Even at this age.
The decorated American is a five time Wimbledon winner. For the last time, she won the tournament in 2008. This is also her last Grand Slam title to this day.
Against Venus Williams, we will see in action the 23-years old Spaniard Garbine Muguruza. For her, this is going to be the second final in London. For a first time, she played for the title in London in 2015, when she lost the other one of the two Williams sisters – Serena.
If Muguruza manages to beat Venus for the trophy, this is going to be her second Grand Slam title. Last year she triumphed in Paris, winning the Roland Garros.
To reach the final Venus Williams had to beat the current Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko in the 1/4-finals. The American won the match with 6-3 7-5. Before that, she achieved wins against Ana Konjuh, Naomi Osaka, Qiang Wang and Elise Mertens. In the semifinal, the experienced American faced Johanna Konta from Germany and she was merciless – 6-4 6-2.
Reaching the final was possible for Garbine Muguruza after she won the semifinal clash against Magdalena Rybarikova from Slovakia. In the 1/4-finals the Spaniard had a very experienced opponent – the Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova. But it was a one sided show from Muguruza – 6-3 6-4.
Before that Garbine didn’t show any mercy against the №1 seeded Angelique Kerber, Sorana Cirstea, Yanina Wickmayer and Ekaterina Alexandrova.
